It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted a toy in general, so I think it’s about time to post one. This one actually has some video so at least it’s not just reading. So, here we have the Delta Force Talking Scanner. Scanners are those things people buy to listen in on police frequencies. It looks like a Walkie Talkie, but since it doesn’t work like a Walkie Talkie, they called it a scanner. The Delta Force Talking Scanner is an audio toy meaning it actually has some stuff you can listen to. It includes batteries and has the famous “Try Me” feature so you can listen to it before you get it, but make sure you grab one that still has the battery pull tab in place. This keeps people from wearing down the battery before you get it home. On the other hand, I probably could have avoided the issue I had with the toy cell phone. Pulling the tab and finding out it didn’t work could have allowed me to pick one that worked. The package boasts real voice commands and military sounds. It also mentions that it includes a belt clip. Well, it does have a belt clip, but you can’t say it’s included when it’s attached to the scanner itself. You might as well say it includes an antenna, speaker and the button to make it work. Don’t be fooled, it’s a one piece toy. There’s also instructions on the back of the package. They’re so unnecessary I can’t even remember what they are and there’s no point in showing them. What could it possibly say? Take toy out and press button, that’s it, that’s all you do. You don’t even need to put the batteries in unless you have to change them, but you don’t even need to do that if you picked one that had good batteries to begin with. It also has a dial at the top you could turn, but it didn’t do anything. Thought it might be an off and volume dial but it didn’t do anything. So how does it sound? Watch the video. I should have gotten a girl to hold...

I found this pair of binoculars at the local Save Mart dollar store. It’s a pair of binoculars for pirates because, well, it says so. I guess marking things with a skull and crossbones makes it pirate. Well, that’s not fair, skull and crossbones also indicate that something is poisonous. In this case it’s probably a warning to stay away, one I chose not to heed. It turns out it was the latter, Har Har. Upon some research into the subject, the skull and crossbones symbol with the bones below the skull is the pirate symbol and the skull with the bones behind it means poison. Well, the bones are behind the skull on the symbol on the binoculars so they are poisonous binoculars. At least they aren’t trying to hide the danger anymore. Just kidding, they just mixed up the symbols, or did they? The Poison.. Er, Pirate Binoculars. The binoculars are covered in a black and gold (lead?) paint job. The black string wrapped around the binoculars is the neck strap. Yes, you get a neck strap. They shelled out a little more, and kept it priced at a dollar, so you can let it dangle from your neck like a cheap necklace. Of course it’s a very thin string that a paper cut would sever. Other than that, there isn’t much to them. No other accessories, just a pair of binoculars. I don’t think pirates even used binoculars anyway. I know they used small telescopes or perhaps monoculars, but I doubt they used binoculars. Maybe they didn’t need binoculars with one eye covered with an eye patch, that would just look ridiculous. So now you are wondering if this thing actually works, if you read this far you must be wondering whether or not it works. Well, unlike the dart sniper rifle that had the sniper scope but no glass or plastic to magnify anything, the binoculars have plastic lenses. Take a look at the pictures below to see just how well it actually magnifies an object. I grabbed my South Park Kenny keychain. Does Kenny look any different to you? Didn’t think so. The plastic lens is just for show, not to magnify things, so it’s useless unless you intend on pretending you can see things closer. Although, I don’t recommend looking through them for very long either. The plastic is not quite clear and probably messes with your eyes if you look through it for too long. I didn’t used to wear glasses!!! Pirate...

There are many toys on the market that are made in the likeness of many things not intended for children. These toys allow the kids to pretend to be an adult and using such things without the danger of using the real ones. With so many people having a mobile gadget like a cellular phone or BlackBerry, it’s no wonder toys in its likeness would be made. Although the danger is quite low of using a real cell phone or BlackBerry, kids lack the responsibility to use them properly and just plain don’t need them. But face it, when your 4 year old sees you typing away on your BlackBerry, they are going to want to copy you. But this isn’t just any BlackBerry toy, its the BlackBerry toy from a dollar store. The dollar store BlackBerry toy was modeled after the BlackBerry 7000 series of BlackBerries and the screen of the toy is a carbon copy except for the icon placement. The BlackBerry Toy(left) compared to the BlackBerry 7290(right) The screen is one of those stickers that shows you 2 different things depending on how you lok at it. In this case, you have the main screen icons and the other is a friends list. Looks like this BlackBerry could have used a screensaver It has the “QWERTY” keyboard and you can press some of the buttons to makes sounds. After the issue with the toy cell phone, I decided to make sure this one worked before picking it up. It had one of those “try me” tabs so I was able to. You can’t even make a word with the buttons that you can press! You can only press the white buttons, the rest are just for show. Unlike the Spiderman flip phone toy and the Batman cell phone toy, each button that does work on the BlackBerry has a different sound. You can’t really spell out any words with the working buttons, but I guess that’s fine since there are countless acronyms you can make with them. Or use that zero button as an “O”. There’s a blue one...

Batman has a wide variety of tools and gadgets that he uses to fight crime. Batman always has just the right gadget to get out of any situation. Things like the Batarang, Bat-cuffs, Bat-bolas, Bat-hook and Bat-laser. It seems “bat” in the name of every gadget Batman has. Here is the dollar store version of a cell phone with Batman. If Batman had a cell phone Bat Cell Phone, it probably wouldn’t look like this and it probably would not have his picture on it. Do kids expect to be Batman playing with this? The first thing that struck me as odd is the title “Super Hero Evil Killer”. It doesn’t include the name Batman but the package includes various pictures of the caped crusader. Secondly, I never really knew of Batman as being an evil killer. Sure, he fought crime and, of course, some villains died while Batman tried to stop them but, come on, he didn’t set out to kill them. He’s not the Punisher. Then again, the Punisher is an anti-hero. Super heroes tend not to try and kill the bad guys. When you think about that, the title is really a contradiction in terms. The Batman phone comes with the phone and a couple watch batteries. You have to put the batteries in yourself but that is a good thing. For one, you can see if the batteries are already leaking so you won’t have to deal with them at home. Secondly, you won’t have to worry about the crappy batteries wearing out too soon by a try me function. Sure, it’s great to know how they sound but the batteries wear out doing it. Like all toy mobile phones, the numbered keys make sounds when you press them. Too bad they don’t each make their own sound though. It operates the same way the Spiderman flip cell phone does by cycling through the same four sounds, which is actually two less than the Spiderman one. The Spiderman cell phone is a flip phone and the Batman cell phone has a spring action slide cover. Press the release button and the cover slides up to show the number keypad. Let’s see how they stack up next to each other. They’re about the same size when closed. The Spiderman phone is longer but the Batman phone is cooler. It could just be me, and sometimes it is, but I don’t think Batman would have this as a ringtone on his bat cell...

Here is a toy mobile phone I found at a local Dollar Bazaar store. If you have not heard of that dollar store, it is probably because it is not really a big chain of dollar stores. The store itself is smaller than the average convenient store. So let’s take a look at the toy mobile phone. The phone itself is painted a nice gold and purple color and my first thought was how much lead is actually in that paint. I will try to avoid touching the painted parts just in case. The back half is unpainted so it can be back handled. Displayed prominently on the package is “Try Me!”. This is to let the customer press a few buttons to see how the toy is going to work before they buy. Many toys that require batteries often come with batteries so they can be tested. Upon seeing the “Try Me!’ on the package, I knew pressing the phone buttons would make some sort of beeping or buzzing noise to add to the fun of the phone toy. Just under the “Try Me!” are the projected features of the phone. Push Buttons to Hear Sounds – Completely Logical Real Telephone Sounds – I should hope so *Batteries Included – Remember this for later If you have ever gotten anything that had a try me function, you may have noticed some of them have pull tabs in the back. These are to prevent the battery from being connected before they are used and draining the battery. A great way to irritate the crap out of department store clerks is to try out the toys constantly. Wanting to get one with full power, I searched until I found one with the tab intact to ensure the use of sound for trying it out. When I finally got to the package, I removed the pull tab and tried pressing the buttons to hear the mobile phone’s dazzling real telephone sounds but unsurprisingly, it did not work. Guess I won’t have to worry about the “Don’t hold close to your ear” warning. That won’t be a problem, it doesn’t work.I open the package to find the battery slot. Unlike the other smaller technology items, this one uses 2 AA batteries. I quickly discovered why it was not working. The two AA batteries that came with the mobile phone are warped! They were not leaking on the side I could see but there must be internal leaking. I am not even going...
